Do you have a fixed or growth mindset? - plus a bunch of other cool stuff - MyBestSelf.fit

Hey Friends,

Have you ever heard of the term ‘growth mindset’? It’s a term used in positive psychology that I came across recently, and it really piqued my interest. Basically, it’s a way of looking at challenges and setbacks.

People with a growth mindset believe their abilities aren’t set in stone, even if they struggle with certain skills. They think that with some work, they can improve their skills over time. On the other hand, people with a fixed mindset believe that their abilities are what they are and won’t change no matter how hard they try.

People’s mindset plays a big role in how they approach goals. If you have a fixed mindset, perhaps you see no reason to set certain goals based on your ability. A person with a growth mindset is more likely to set a stretch goal and believe that they can accomplish it given enough time to obtain the proper abilities.

Take this Mindset Survey to find out what kind of mindset you have.

New Tools I'm Obsessed Over

As someone with ADHD, I struggle with my to-do lists. While I can make a ton of lists, I often feel overwhelmed when it comes to actually starting a task and deciding which one to tackle first. 🤯 I have tried using calendar blocking, to-do apps, written books, and project management tools, but none have worked as well as Reclaim.ai.

🎉 I discovered this tool about two months ago; it has been magical. It integrates with my Google calendar, making managing my tasks and staying focused easier.

👀 Here’s what my process looks like:

  1. After completing my goal-setting process, I use AI tools to break each goal into actionable tasks. I also use these tools to estimate the time required for each task.
  2. Next, I use Reclaim to add these tasks. I enter the estimated time required for completion and the minimum and maximum time chunks I want to work on. For example, if a task would take me 5 hours to complete, I may only want to work on it for 30-60 minutes at a time.
  3. Finally, I select the start and due dates for the task.

🎁 Poof! Reclaim analyzes my calendars and the times I’ve designated “working hours” to create a plan for the next 8 weeks. But the magic doesn’t stop there. I can also add daily, weekly, or monthly habits, and Reclaim will schedule those too.

It’s worth mentioning again that I have ADHD. A well-crafted plan won’t work if I get distracted by other things. In those cases, Reclaim will reschedule everything to fit the new plan. I can view all my tasks in my Google Calendar, linked to my time tracking tool, Toggl Track.

💪 Like any system, it only works when I use it. And when I use this system, I feel like a superhero with the number of things I can accomplish. It’s especially helpful with my distorted sense of time. I often feel like a task takes forever, but in reality, it takes much less time.

👌 If you sign up for Reclaim through my affiliate link, I’ll receive a free month of service at no cost to you. This offer works even if you sign up for the free version! I never promote anything I don’t personally use and love.

Cool Stuff

A short list of cool stuff that caught my attention

On the recommendation of a friend, I purchased the Core Values Journal from BestSelf.co. It just arrived today, and I’m looking forward to digging into this 13-week activity book. You might consider this book if you have never reflected on your values. I find that working with coaching clients, the best place to start is always values. Once you clearly define your values, the rest of your life path becomes much clearer. I’ll keep you posted on what I learn and like about the activity book.

Louann Brizendine’s new book presents a positive and innovative outlook on aging. According to her research, women in midlife become more centered and focused, which leads to improved concentration on one task at a time. She offers clear advice on improving women's well-being, sexuality, and longevity. “The Upgrade” celebrates how women step into their power in this stage of life, and it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in making the most of your midlife. Have you read this book? Are you going to put it on your list?

Are you looking for a new at-home exercise routine? OMG, I’m in love with The Fitness Marshall and his routines. Caleb and his ‘booty team’ use upbeat music, you sweat, and they also don’t take themselves very seriously. Check them out!

Breaking the Procrastination Habit: Understanding why you put things off

Can’t make it this time? Click here to get priority notification of the next workshop!

Hey there! This workshop will help you understand how you procrastinate and make a plan to stop doing it! This will help you get better at work by avoiding putting things off.

Procrastination means putting off or avoiding something that should be done now. You may think procrastination means you are lazy or bad at time management. But that isn’t usually true. Procrastination happens for many reasons, like wanting to have fun, being bored, afraid of failing or lacking confidence.

Lots of employees have trouble with procrastination. About 25% of adults say they are procrastinators. Also, workers might spend between 1.5 and 3 hours doing things that aren’t work during work hours. If people procrastinate at work, it can negatively affect their job and how well they do it. Procrastinators often work slower and not as well as they could and may take more time than needed to finish a task. They can also feel anxious, sad, or stressed out.

But it’s possible to get better at not procrastinating. This workshop will help you see how you procrastinate and think about how to stop. If you can reduce or stop procrastination, you can manage your time better and get things done more efficiently.

Here are the steps we will work through in the workshop:

  • Step 1: Identify the tasks you typically procrastinate about
  • Step 2: Identify your procrastination behaviors
  • Step 3: Identify why you procrastinate
  • Step 4: Identify ways to eliminate each behavior
  • Step 5: Taking action
  • Step 6: Reflection

This workshop is not a magic pill but a starting point for behavior change that will take some practice and time to achieve. Knowing yourself better is the first step in understanding why you do the things you do! But knowledge without action is useless. That is why the community is here to support you! Behavior change is difficult but having a support system does make it easier.
